It was about 45 degrees which was perfect for running. We got in a nice warm up.
My fellow athlete coworker, Jeff was giving me motivation the day before the race. He was telling me to "get out" with the leaders & start out fast. He came up with a crazy time goal that he just threw out there and I decided a turkey trot is the best opportunity to just take risks. I went in excited. I ran HARD from the start and although I could not hold the pace I went out with nor did I go under 20:00 I did have a breakthrough day. The 2nd place woman really pushed me & we made eachother work in the final mile. She had that last little kick in her as my stomache started to churn in the last few minutes from pushing hard. I crossed the line with a new PR... A huge PR in fact and was 3rd overall out of 971 female runners.
I honestly am still floored by the body's ability to respond to the training process. I'm totally addicted to the progress and I loved taking risks on this day. My new 5k PR nearly a month of training with coach Dave is now 20:33.
The prizes were really nice cutboards.
I would recommend this 5k to anyone.
